How to purge customer PII

  • Updated

Data security is more important than ever to both businesses and consumers. This article will explain SheerID process to purge Personally Identifiable Information, known as PII. This process allows organizations organizations to minimize risk and comply with privacy regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

PII: What is collected and what can be purged from MySheerID?

When submitting a verification request, a consumer provides standard PII that can be deleted when it is no longer needed. All programs collect the basic data listed below, but some programs are configured to collect additional PII such as phone number, or a discharge date for military veterans.

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Email Address
Purging data from SheerID only deletes information from your SheerID program, it does not purge information from your CRM or account management system. Once purged, all PII data will be removed from the verification. This is a non-reversible process.

How to purge a single customer's PII

The Customer Service Manager role is required to purge an individual's PII. If an individual submitted 10 verification requests, then you will need to purge each request.

  1. Log in to your MySheerID account
  2. Click on Search
  3. Enter the name, email, phone number (if collected on the form), or verificationId in the search bar. SheerID recommends searching the email address the consumer entered on the verification form.
