Knowing your implementation type is key to understanding how you manage your programs and what features are available to you. Use this guide to identify your current setup and learn how to upgrade for more flexibility.
Understanding the implementation types
| Type | Description |
| Standard | A solution built and managed entirely within the MySheerID program builder |
| Standard Plus | A Standard program that includes minor custom additions while still hosted by SheerID |
| Hybrid | A mix of SheerID-hosted elements and your own hosted pages, often using our JavaScript library to embed the experience |
| API | A fully bespoke integration where you host the entire user experience and communicate with SheerID solely via our REST API |
How to identify your type
To determine which one applies to your specific program, follow these simple steps:
- The DIY Rule: If you built the program on your own entirely within the MySheerID (MSID) dashboard and did not work with our Professional Services (Pro Serv) team for the build, your implementation type is Standard.
-
The Pro Serv Rule: If you worked with our Professional Services team to launch the program, refer to your Scope Document related to that specific project. The "Implementation Type" will be explicitly listed there:
- Still uncertain? If you cannot find your documentation, reach out to the Product Support Team and they can verify your implementation type for you.
Why a hybrid or API setup may have been chosen
Standard programs are always SheerID's best practice. However, the choice is sometimes made to implement API or hybrid setups due to specific business needs. Common reasons a hybrid or API setup may have been chosen include, but or not limited to:
- Hosting your own emails: You want full control over your customer communications and want to send all status and reward emails directly from your own email servers.
- Custom branded experience: You want to design and host the verification form directly on your own website so it matches your brand design perfectly.
- Technical bandwidth: Your company has a large team of developers who can build and support a custom integration.
Knowing why your team chose a Hybrid or API setup in the past is the best way to plan for the future. Understanding these original business goals helps you determine if your needs have changed. This makes it easier to decide if switching to a Standard program is the right choice for you today.
Important note on custom builds
Some older programs use a custom SheerID build. Please note that these custom builds have several limitations:
- They do not receive automatic product updates.
- You cannot make changes or updates to them on your own.
- Any updates require our Professional Services team and often require a fee.
- They may not follow current SheerID best practices.
If you know or think you may have a custom program, please reach out to your CSM or to Product Support to learn more about how we can support you in migrating to a Standard program.
Why switch to standard programs?
If you are currently using a Custom program, you may be missing out on the speed and autonomy of our modern platform. We have significantly enhanced MySheerID to give you full control.
The benefits of moving to Standard
Transitioning from a legacy Custom program to a Standard Program offers several strategic advantages:
- Self-service modifications: Update copy, colors, fonts, and logos instantly without paying a fee or waiting for a developer.
- Instant program creation: Launch new communities (e.g. Educators, First Responders) in minutes using our intuitive, no-code interface.
- Reward management: Upload and manage your own reward code pools directly without needing to contact support.
- Enhanced security: Access Signal Intelligence to protect your offers from abuse while tailoring settings to your specific goals.
- Optimized conversions: Standard programs automatically include our latest best practices, such as the revamped Document Upload page and optimized email templates, designed to reduce consumer friction.
- Future-proofing: New SheerID products and features (like SMS collection, Marketing Consent checkboxes, and UTM tracking) are released for Standard programs first.
