Senior Verification FAQ

  • Updated

SheerID's age verification solution confirms that individuals aged 18 and older in eligible countries meet specific age requirements or fall within defined age brackets. This process is particularly useful for programs designed for seniors, ensuring exclusive offers reach the correct demographic.

What is senior age verification?

Senior age verification confirms that individuals meet or exceed a specific age threshold (e.g., 50+, 60+, 65+). In the US, this validation relies on authoritative data sources, supported by document review. All other supported countries rely solely on document review.

How is senior age verification used?

It is most commonly used for "Senior programs," where brands need to confirm a user is within a specific age range or above a certain age. SheerID configures the age verification to respect the age window or threshold determined by the brand. Age verification is limited to consumers between the ages of 18-120. If you enter a value outside those boundaries you'll see an error and be prevented from moving to the next step in the program builder, as seen below.

Example use cases:

  • Retail organizations: Granting senior discounts to individuals surpassing a particular age threshold, for example 50+, 60+, or 65+
  • Age-based discounts: Where legally permitted, such as for movie and concert ticketing, or specific services, or memberships

Can I verify multiple age ranges in one program, for example 35-50 and 55+?

No, only one age range may be specified within an age verification program. If you need to verify individuals within two distinct age ranges, it is recommended to create two separate programs, one for adults ages 35-50 and another for seniors 55+.

What are the required verification form inputs?

To facilitate age verification, the following information is required from the user:

  • First and last name
  • Date of birth
  • ZIP/Postal code
  • Primary phone number
  • Email address

What can be used for document review?

Users should take a photo of and upload one of the following documents:

  • Driver's license
  • Birth certificate
  • Passport
  • Passport card
  • State-issued ID
  • Government-issued letter

Any other documentation is unacceptable – the only approved document types must be on the above list of official government-issued documents. The birthdate on provided documents must match what was inputted via the verification form and must prove that the user's age falls within the specified range for the program.

What is the maximum age for senior verification?

120 years of age is the maximum age verification supported by SheerID. The minimum age supported by our age verification products is 18. Learn more about our range of audience verification solutions here.
