Consolation offers

  • Updated

A consolation offer is a secondary reward that a brand can give to consumers who start the verification process, but are likely ineligible. This includes consumers who abandon the process, and those who have failed to match against any source, including document review.

All verifications are valuable to a brand, not just approvals (eligible vs. ineligible). People who abandon their verifications or are explicitly rejected have shown high intent to purchase, and a desire to join the brand, even if they are ineligible for the specific gated offer.

SheerID recommends adding a consolation offer to a program if the brand has a lower-value, evergreen offer they already give out liberally, if the offer is time-limited or capped by a reward number, or if the brand has an in-store use case. When a consumer is standing at the register trying to verify, and they get rejected, the consolation offer can smooth over any negative feelings. It should not be used by brands concerned about offer abuse.

The consolation offer must be enabled by SheerID's Product Support Team. When requesting consolation offer be added to your program, be sure to inform support which reward method you've selected: A pool of single-use codes, a static code, or via account-linking. Once implemented on your program, you can edit the messaging in your program settings. Consolation offers are available to SheerID customers on a Business or Enterprise contract.
