If a consumer experiences issues verifying their healthcare worker status, direct them to the SheerID Verification Help Center for assistance or customer support routing. If a verified consumer encounters issues applying a discount or redeeming an offer, your customer support team must assist them directly.
Audience overview
SheerID healthcare verification allows brands to offer exclusive promotions to medical professionals and healthcare personnel in multiple locales. Programs that omit broader categories like other health care workers often experience higher support volume because many healthcare roles fall outside standard doctor and nurse categories.

Doctors
In US terminology, the doctor affiliation covers state-licensed physicians and surgeons holding Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) credentials. Globally, these terms translate as Medical Doctor, Medical Practitioner, Physician, and Allopathic Physician. Other medical practitioners, such as chiropractic, psychiatrists, and dentists, are verified under the other health worker category.
Nurses
This category includes all licensed nursing professionals. Eligible credentials include:
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
- Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP)
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)
- Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN)
- Nurse Anesthetist (NA)
- Nurse Practitioner (NP)
- Registered Nurse (RN)
Other health workers
This segment includes licensed medical professionals such as physician assistants, pharmacists, chiropractors, and psychologists, as well as non-licensed staff working inside medical facilities.
Pharmacists and dentists (EMEA)
Additional flexibility is available for pharmacists and dentists in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) regions. They can be added as distinct affiliations, outside of other health workers. Contact Professional Services during program implementation to include dedicated pharmacist or dentist affiliations, which are not enabled by default. In regions outside EMEA, such as the US and Canada, pharmacists and dentists verify under the other health worker segment.
Emergency medical technicians and paramedics
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and paramedics qualify under the other healthcare worker category. EMTs and paramedics are also eligible for First Responder programs alongside police officers, firefighters, and search and rescue personnel.
Veterinarians
Veterinarians are eligible as other health workers. Other veterinary clinic staff are not eligible.
Verification methods and regional coverage
In the US, SheerID uses state licensure databases to verify licensed professionals automatically. Healthcare staff who do not hold a state license, such as medical receptionists, are verified through document review. Authoritative sources, single sign-on (SSO), and email loop are available depending on locale, and document review is used universally.
EMEA verification sources
Medical verification in EMEA relies on three primary verification methods:
- Official registers: SheerID verifies eligibility against national medical registry databases where available (authoritative sources)
- Single Sign-on (SSO): SheerID uses OpenID Connect to verify users through authorized hospital or healthcare provider employee portals
- Email domain validation: If SSO is unavailable, SheerID sends an email loop verification link to the user's official
National license inputs
For EMEA medical programs, the verification form can include an optional input field for national license or registration numbers. Adding this field helps increase instant verification rates across API integrations.
